In 1980 Casio released the Casiotone 201, its first electronic keyboard. Since then, it has developed a series of original electronic instruments, including Key Lighting Keyboards, in an effort to encourage people to play music. More recently, Casio has been developing free music apps. In 2013, Casio released Chordana Tap, which had chord analysis technology, and in 2015, it released CHORDANA TRACKFORMER, which can automatically compose electronic dance music (EDM). By focusing on both electronic musical instruments and music apps, Casio is aiming to bring the fun of music to an even broader range of people. The app can automatically play a variety of 50 songs, from pop to classical. As the song plays, the app displays the correct keyboard position for both hands in real time in the piano roll window. Casio Music UK has announced a series of free virtual piano and keyboard lessons via Facebook Live for people stuck at home during the coronavirus lockdown. The first 30-minute ‘Get Started’ lesson was live streamed on Friday 17 April via Casio Music’s Facebook page.

This initiative is part of Casio’s ongoing ‘Learn @Home with Casio’ campaign, which has been launched to provide resources for anyone seeking ideas to keep themselves occupied and entertained during self-isolation. The campaign includes free access to online music lessons via the Casio Music Academy. A digital sheet music book is also available for learners to play their favourite popular music through a partnership with RockSchool.

All these resources, together with the the Chordana Play app – a free app for music learning games – are accessible via a new online hub: music.casio.co.uk/learnathome. Casio is asking people to post a clip of themselves performing with a piano or keyboard tagging Casio with the hashtag #athomewithcasio.
